The Jewish Family Service (JFS) Gambling Recovery Program provides treatment to teens, adults, seniors and their families for problem or compulsive gambling. Diagnostic and intervention therapy includes vocational counseling, psychiatric and financial consultation and crisis intervention.

The program is carried out in partnership with Gamblers Anonymous, Gam-Anon and the New York Council on Problem Gambling. It is certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and affiliated with the New York Council on Problem Gambling, Inc.

All JFS staff members maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality in the delivery of counseling and referral services.

  What are the Warning Signs of a Gambling Problem?
  • Preoccupation with gambling, reliving gambling experiences, or thinking of ways to get money to gamble.
  • Urgent need for more money to gamble with to achieve the desired level of excitement.
  • Repeated failed attempts to control, cut back, or stop gambling.
  • Irritability and restlessness when attempting to scale back or stop gambling.
  • Uses gambling to escape from family or work problems or to relieve a depressed or unhappy mood.
  • Return to gambling to get even after losing money.
  • Lying to family members, therapists, colleagues, or others to conceal the extent of the gambling habit.
  • Committing illegal acts like forgery, fraud, theft, or embezzlement to finance a gambling habit.
  • Loss of a significant relationship, job, or educational career opportunity because of the need to gamble.
